Residential Spotlight: Les Lazareck

As the most experienced residential solar installation team in Nevada, Bombard Renewable Energy is focused on providing property owners with energy savings. With over 30 years of experience, we’re proud to offer the most reliable and affordable solar products available.

Wondering what the solar panel installation process is actually like for homeowners? We (BRE) recently talked to Les Lazareck (LL), one of our residential clients, about what his solar home experience has been like. Read on to see what he had to say.

BRE: Can you tell us about yourself and why you were interested in solar energy?

LL: I have a background in mechanical engineering and alternative energy design. Over the years, I have stayed connected with UNLV’s mechanical engineering department. Before installing our solar system, over 14 years ago, I met a gentleman at a Solar Energy conference in Dallas who had many of the same philosophies as me when it came to solar energy. I wanted to walk the talk since my business revolves around improving the comfort health, safety, and energy efficiency of homes. After the conference, I started getting price quotes for a solar system, including one from Bombard Renewable Energy.

BRE: Can you tell us a little bit about why you made your home a solar home?

LL: Since I was young, I’ve had an altruistic attitude, and I believed that making homes, communities and countries energy independent would reduce war and create more peace in the world. Even more so now with climate change concerns. I am a firm believer in homeowners having control over their source of electricity, and solar energy allows them to do just that. My wife and I wanted to be a leader in our community, so the choice to make our home a net zero electric home was simple.

BRE: What was your solar panel installation process like?

LL: It was so seamless. The only delay was getting it commissioned from NV Energy. The installers from Bombard were incredibly professional, and I thought the whole process was so quick.  We were impressed that they even painted the conduit to match the side of the house. They taught me how to maintain the system and read the information on the inverter. As far as cleanliness and efficiency during and after the installation process, it was clear it wasn’t their first rodeo, and they were extremely professional.

Since my solar panels were installed, the system has produced more than expected. Production has been consistent since our system was installed in 2008, there has been no degradation over the years, and there has been no maintenance whatsoever.

BRE: What has surprised you the most about renewable energy since making the switch?

LL: As I mentioned before, there has been zero maintenance. Our solar electric system produces more energy than I was expecting it would, and my bills have been lower. Bombard estimated it would produce 10,000 kWh per year, but it’s actually producing over 11,200 kWh! The biggest surprise was the lower efficiency panels we chose covered over 85% of our roof, and they ended up reducing the attic temperature by 3-5 degrees, which had direct savings on cooling.

BRE: What advice do you have for homeowners who are on the fence about using solar?

LL: First of all, if you’re planning to be in your home more than 8 years, your solar system will have paid for itself and you’ll have free electricity for another 20 years or more! You’ll be ahead of the game. Secondly, climate change is real. Whatever you can do to reduce your own power, it reduces the burning of fossil fuels and reduces the use of water.

BRE: How has your experience with Bombard residential solar energy been?

LL: I think Bombard Renewable Energy is one of the most stable companies in the valley. They’ve gone through the economic storm and have never skipped a beat. They’re a great sponsor and supporter of organizations in the community, and they even bring their solar trailer to many outdoor community events where they provide the power for the booths. The staff at Bombard has been really stable. There’s been so many solar companies that have come and gone, but everyone who has been involved in the installation process is still around at Bombard. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my experience and continue to recommend them to anyone looking to install a solar panel system on their home or business.

At Bombard Renewable Energy, we know we wouldn’t be where we are today without our amazing clients. It’s people like Les that help us stay motivated to keep encouraging others – like you – to consider investing in renewable energy.
