World Environment Day was on June 5th! This day is the UN’s most important day to encourage awareness and action for the protection of our environment. As a business that strives to help our clients reduce their carbon footprint, this is a cause that we feel pretty strongly about.
This year’s theme was to #BeatPlasticPollution. Here’s a few ways you can still get involved to join the worldwide movement.
- Opt for re-useable shopping bags. Over 380 billion plastic bags are used in the US each year, and plastic bags are among the 12 most found items during coastal cleanups.
- Say no to straws. While their size may seem harmless, that’s the sole factor that makes it difficult for them to make it into recycling bins. When straws end up in our oceans, they’re extremely harmful to marine life.
- Have a go-to reusable water bottle. One million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute, and that number is only expected to increase.
- Play Tag! The UN is encouraging the world to get involved with a fun game on social media. Simply select a single-use plastic you’re going to give up and snap a selfie showing yourself with a reusable alternative. Share your selfie and tag 3 friends to invite them to do the same. Be sure to include #BeatPlasticPollution and tag @UNEnvironment.
Each person that gets involved makes a difference for our planet. Take the pledge this year to keep your plastics reusable and your energy renewable. Reusable plastic is up to you, but when it comes to renewable energy, we’re always here to help. Get in touch today about how you can increase your impact on the environment.
